Introduction
In this article we are going to learn How to split large file in to multiple small files using winrar. As we all know that Winrar is one of the most popular file and folder compressor tool for Microsoft Windows. It is not just a compressor tool but more then that. Winrar comes with various features like you can set password to protect your files from others, split large files in small chunks and so on. Now you might thinking that what is the use of dividing a files in to small pieces. Suppose you have a file of size 10 GB and want to share the file with some of your friends but don’t have a storage drive with required size. In that case You can split the 10 GB file on to small chunks of 1 GB each (as per your requirement) using Winrar and send the file to your friends by copy the small chunk’s on two or more different storage drives. Now in this article I will show you how to split files using Winrar. So let’s get started.
Follow the below steps to split large file in to multiple small files using Winrar
You have to follow simple 3 steps to do the same. Here I have a Image file named “image.iso” whose size is 302 MB and I want to divide the file in to 3 small chunk files of size 100 MB each. Refer the snapshot below.
FILE PROPERTIES
First download and install the Winrar application.
Now right click on the large file you want to split in to small chunks and select Add to archive option. Refer the snapshot below.
ADD TO ARCHIVE
After above step you will get the Archive name and parameters window. Here on Archive format section select RAR and little below on Split to Volumes, Size section select the unit from drop down list eg : KB, MB, GB…etc.. (as per your requirement) and on box enter the size. then click on Ok. Now the divide process will start and will take some time depend on your file size.
SPLIT TO VOLUMES
After completion of the process you will get your divided files. Refer the snapshot below. In my case I have divided the file (i.e. image.iso) in to three parts.
