HOW TO INSTALL UMPLAYER OPEN SOURCE MEDIA PLAYER IN UBUNTU 16.04 – A MULTIMEDIA PLAYER FOR LINUX
Introduction
In this article we are going to learn How to install Umplayer open source media player in Ubuntu 16.04. Umplayer is a light weight multimedia player for linux operating system used to play audio & video files. It’s an nice application comes with some nice features i.e.
- Umplayer multimedia player is a cross platform application available for all major operating systems i.e. Linux, Microsoft Windows, MacOS.
- It’s supports allmost all audio and video media file formats like AVI, MP4, MP3, WMV, MPEG…etc…
- Umplayer multimedia player comes with almost 200+ codecs which makes it universal open source media player.
- If you dont have subtitles for any video file or for any movie then Umplayer open source media player will download it directly from internet for you.
- OR if you have subtitles for a movie but the audio and subtitles are not matching then Umplayer will sync and match them automatically.
- You can search videos directly from youtube using umplayer multimedia player.
Follow the below steps to install Umplayer open source media player in ubuntu 16.04 – A Multimedia Player for Linux
Before start the installation of Umplayer open source media player we have to install required repository for that as Umplayer multimedia player is not a part of default repository of Ubuntu 16.04. So here i am going to install the getdeb repository from where we will get the Umplayer package.
Follow the below command to download the getdeb repository .deb package.

Here I have downloaded the getdeb repository package to install Umplayer open source media player package. Refer the output below.

Now use the below command to install the downloaded getdeb repository package.

After installing the repository just update the packages and repository of Ubuntu 16.04 using below command.

Finally install the Umplayer multimedia player package using below command.

As you can see above we have successfully installed the Umplayer open source media player package. To confirm the same refer the below command.

To open the application just type the command umplayer on shell prompt. Refer the command below.

After open the application it will ask to select your preferred language. So select your language and click on Ok.
