HOW TO INSTALL DILLO WEB BROWSER (DILLO BROWSER) IN UBUNTU 16.04 – A FREE BROWSER FOR LINUX
Introduction
In this article we are going to learn How to install Dillo web browser (Dillo Browser) in Ubuntu 16.04. Dillo is a open source free browser application used to browse internet websites. It’s an nice light weight user friendly application with easy features. Dillo web browser was initially developed by Jorge Arellano Cid on year 1999 using C++ programming language and released under GPLv3 license. It’s an cross platform application available for major operating systems like Linux, Free BSD, Unix, OS X.
Like any other web browser Dillo comes with some nice features mentioned below :
- You can bookmark your required/important websites.
- Supports cookies but due to security and privacy reason by default it comes in disabled state.
- Open multiple websites at a time using tabs.
- In older version of dillo web browser application you have to installed a plugin to open https version of websites but now in latest version this feature is included in web browser.
- Dillo browser has cache and buffer features to store the website cache to provide quick web browsing output for better user experience.
Follow the below steps to install Dillo web browser (Dillo Browser) in Ubuntu 16.04 – A free browser for Linux
Before we start the installation let’s update the packages and repositories of Ubuntu 16.04 using below command.
elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get update # Update Packages & Repositories

To install the dillo browser application we don’t have to install any third party PPA repository as its a part of default repository of Ubuntu 16.04. So let’s go ahead and install dillo web browser package using below command.
elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install dillo # Install Dillo Web browser Package Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... As you can see above we have successfully installed the Dillo web browser package, To confirm the same refer the below command.
elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg -l dillo # Confirm the installed Package

To open the application just type the command dillo on the shell prompt. Refer the command below.
elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ dillo # Open the Dillo Web browser application
You can also open the dillo web browser (dillo browser) graphically using search your computer box. Refer the snapshot below.
To uninstall the dillo web browser application you can refer the below command.
elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg -r dillo # Uninstall the application
